I’ve mentioned the Neighborhood Story Project on this site before — a documentary book-making project in New Orleans, it publishes books made up of writing, interviews, and photography about particular neighborhoods in New Orleans, created by young people there. It’s great stuff.
Well, turns out our pal G.K. Darby is presently participating in the NSP’s Second Annual Write-A-Thon (read more about that here), and you can chip in some bucks to sponsor him. I just did it. You should too!
He writes on his FirstGiving page:
The NSP does a lot of great stuff, but the most important thing (for me) is that they run a writing program out of one of the most troubled high schools in New Orleans. I’ve personally seen how their intensive, nuts and bolts writing class (credited, graded, during the school day) changes the way students feel about themselves and the world.
Anything helps. No amount is too small. I have been involved with the NSP, in one way or another, since it started five years ago. They are serious, effective and efficient.
(I will use the writing time to develop my next book that was conceived on a train trip through Brookhaven, MS: “Victorian Slide Bracelets & Gold Slide Bracelet Charms.”)
Give a little, here.
