In September I noted a very serious makeover of Louis Armstrong’s classic take on “SJI” via remix by San Francisco’s Christopher Abad/Aempirei (here). Turns out there’s another notable remix floating around: Nils Hoffmann released a sort of more techno-ish reworking of the song (using King Oliver’s take (w/ Frank Marvin vocals) as the starting point), back in October 2007.

It’s obviously a good bit more accessible than Aempirei’s extremely adventurous construction, with the general vibe of those Verve Remixed CDs; I particularly like the way the horns are deployed in the mix. A pleasing listen. The other material on Hoffman’s Kurz Und Klein EP sounds good, too.
