New and improved

So. After a lot of second-guessing myself, and a lot of hassle, and more than a few moments when I was pretty certain I’d made a bad decision: Here’s the all-new, and I-sure-hope improved, “no notes” web site.
The best thing about this new version, I believe, is the “categories” feature in the sidebar at left. Click on any of those categories and you can get the posts that fit in that category. Probably you already knew that that’s how it worked, but I’m just saying. If you want to see all the posts relating to specific versions of “St. James Infirmary” that I’ve written about, this is the way to go. There’s also a search feature.
Speaking of “St. James Infirmary,” the main thrust of this site will not only remain the same, it’s actually sort of being reiterated. I think I let the site go a little far adrift sometimes, and in importing the posts from the old setup over to this one, I got rid of some superflous junk. I’ll still have a bit to say about New Orleans, and music in general, from time to time, but I’m going to make more of an effort to stick closer to things that somehow relate to “St. James Infirmary” or at least to the book Letters from New Orleans.
I’ve got a good backlog of material I want to get through that’s on point, so it shouldn’t be too hard to keep myself from wandering astray.
Meanwhile, I’m not completely finished “troubleshooting” this new site, and I’m sure there are still broken links or links back to the old blog, and other problems. If you spot an issue, feel free to let me know. And actually, if you have any thoughts about the new design or whatever, also feel free to chime in.
No obligation of course!

Based on the feedback, I wrote a second version of the essay, and asked for more feedback. Based on that, I wrote a
