Look at this cool chick reading Letters from New Orleans! You know she’s cool because she’s got a rare first edition.
This arrived in the mail last week: It’s the new Garrett County Press catalog, and obviously it made my day, my weekend, my week, and my month.
You are encouraged to learn about the many fine books published by GC Press. Like Even A Daughter Is Better Than Nothing, by Mykel Board, or The George W. Bush Coloring Book, by Karen Ocker. (Not pictured, sorry, but this is my site, not theirs.) Then you can buy some, and then you can go tell your favorite bookseller to get in the game and stock all of them.
A couple of years ago I did some research into the song "St. James Infirmary," wrote up what I found, emailed that essay to friends and posted it on my web site (as part of a series of "Letters From New Orleans," as I was living in that city at the time). Based on the feedback, I wrote a second version of the essay, and asked for more feedback. Based on that, I wrote a
